In the summer of 2022, I set off on an overland odyssey across Europe, finally taking full advantage of the near-complete removal of travel restrictions after the Covid pandemic to do something I had wanted to do for many years. The main focus of my travels were two metal festivals, Kilkim Žaibu in Lithuania and MetalDays in Slovenia. In between travelling to and from these festivals, I intended to stop by as many rock and metal bars as possible and write a brief review of them, alongside doing the usual sightseeing and taking in the culture.
In addition, I decided that I would do this trip entirely overland, with no flights whatsoever, mainly because I enjoy train travel and it is the eco-conscious way to go places, but also because flying has become ever more of a headache in these pre-pandemic times, indeed many of my friends subsequently reported issues with cancelled or severely delayed flights when attempted to get to festivals this summer.
As part of documenting my experiences I not only wish to keep a journal of my travels but also provide useful information to my fellow metalheads who are looking for places to listen to great music, or at the very least have a great beer.
