The first bar I went to was FREIDA bar. I picked up the heavy vibe as soon as I went in, and they had plenty of outdoor seating for me to have a cool glass of Jever Pilsner, just what was needed since the mercury seldom dropped below 30 during my trip. I would happily have a few beers there, but since time was pressing, I moved on to my next bar.
Next stop was Low Budget. Music here was more mainstream with a mix of indie and hard rock, not for metal purists, but I am not a metal purist so I enjoyed the atmosphere there.
Final stop in Cologne before I headed back to the station to get the sleeper to Munich was Redrum. The music at this bar was mainly classic rock, including the Doors and Black Sabbath, with a bit of System of a Down thrown in for good measure.
Toward the end of the evening I was a bit saddened that I hadn’t given more thought to Germany on my trip (although later on I would make an change to my itinerary and do an overnight stay in Berlin, which was well worth it), since a glance at Google Maps had showed me that I had just scratched the surface when it came to interesting rock and alternative bars in Cologne, and I would be up for a revisit. However right now, I was getting ready to head to my next stop: Prague.
